Movement and Artificial Intelligence: Aictive proposal
We are active beings, and we live in movement, although this feature of ours has been fading out with evolution: changes in workplace activity and our routines have favored deficient and repetitive movements, along with sedentariness, a condition that facilitates the occurrence of muscle-skeletal injuries.
Movement assessments provide useful information to identify and quantify any motor alterations or limitations in people. In time, these assessments have become increasingly relevant in reducing the risk of suffering muscle-skeletal injuries.
Currently, several movement assessment methods exist within the workplace, sports, and health environments. Workplace evaluations exist to prevent occupational injuries, while movement screenings can be carried out to prevent sports injuries. However, their main drawbacks are that the evaluator must necessarily be knowledgeable and experienced in the field, while also having to keep his/her own biases at check when conducting the evaluation.
In order to solve this, we propose to use technology to our advantage and assess human movement by stimulating human intelligence, through Artificial Intelligence.
Imagine you own a computer that is able to see and think like a human being: just like a child, the computer requires supervision to properly understand its environment. With this in mind, Aictive has designed an autonomous system, which has been trained with the knowledge provided by physical therapists with expertise in movement. In this way, the neuronal networks and algorithms used in our system are attuned to capture, characterize and analyze human movement. This analysis then translates into practical recommendations for the user.
How does it work?
This is done in a very simple way: you use the camera of any mobile device, wherever you are and whenever you want to.
First, we use our system – which uses convolutional neuronal networks to detect the parts of your body – to estimate your pose. Then, when the position of your body has been recognized in the space, the system conducts a follow-up in time, and extracts data, which are then processed to analyze your movement according to various criteria we have developed at Aictive.
Just like that, this system is able to supply you with immediate and reliable information about the quality of your movement, avoiding the biases of the human eye, and creating a registry of how you make progress through time, thus letting you accomplish your goals.¿
Whether you’re at your office, at a training center, or at home, Artificial Intelligence will allow you to analyze your movement in an easy, quick and objective manner.
How do we do it at Aictive?
Through Move Check, a platform created to explore your movement. In this platform, you will have to complete various functional tests ranging from sit-ups to glute-bridges, which, in total, will only take about 20 minutes of your time, and in the end you will receive immediate feedback about your results.
